Standing Desk Fit & Compatibility Calculator

Check whether a standing desk fits your height, equipment, desktop, and room before you buy it. Get practical adjustments—not just a generic desk-height number.

1

Your body and working height

Start with the person who will use the desk most often.

2

Desk specifications

Use the manufacturer’s floor-to-desktop measurements.

3

Your equipment

Include the desktop itself when the capacity applies to the complete lifting system.

4

Available room

Measure the clear area, not the full wall-to-wall room.

How to use your standing desk fit results

Compare the calculated keyboard ranges with the desk’s advertised adjustment range. Your elbows should remain close to your body, shoulders relaxed, and wrists approximately in line with your forearms. Fine-tune the final position based on comfort.

Prioritize the minimum height

Many buyers check only maximum height. A desk that cannot lower enough can force raised shoulders while seated. A keyboard tray, properly adjusted chair, and footrest may help, but the better solution is a desk whose range fits from the start.

Treat capacity as a planning number

The calculator uses 80% of the advertised capacity as a conservative planning threshold. This is not a manufacturer or safety standard. Confirm whether the published capacity includes the desktop and whether it represents dynamic lifting capacity.

Methodology and limitations

Results are ergonomic starting points derived from body-height proportions and the measurements you provide. Individual limb proportions, chair geometry, desktop thickness, posture, footwear, and task type can change the best setting. OSHA recommends keeping the top of the monitor at or slightly below eye level and positioning the keyboard so the elbows remain close to the torso. This calculator is educational and is not medical, engineering, or product-safety advice.
